  • How it Works
Sync in with our SYMBIONICS WILDTred technology. Engage with the grace and agility of a big-game predator. Independent touch pads for wrap-around grip, lugged claws for traction, and the convertible breeze of XHale a webbed nylon weave that allows your feet to catch their breath. Everything bred together to give you a running experience that till now, was only for those who ran on all fours.

The midsole is injected EVA, no cushioning is wasted by compressing the EVA into a mold, plus no material is wasted during manufacturing. The XR1.0 has a blown rubber outsole with a carbon rubber toe. Blown rubber is lighter. We use carbon rubber on the toe so the lugs can dig better on those gnarly, muddy trails. We've built in just enough protection with our forefoot rock plate and an I-beam arch shank for support and ride stability.

What is WILDTred? Inspired by a big cats paw, WILDTred is our out-sole's solution to traction. When a big cat runs it uses it's paws for traction, claws only come into play as a last resort. Our out-sole works the same way, the entire blown rubber perimeter wraps around surfaces for traction, while the large indentations dig and bite allowing the perimeter to perform like separate pads. The center section of the outsole is concave with aggressive lugs, this provides two advantages. When running on a firm surface the center will compress increasing your stability, but when on an uneven surface, the center lugs can protrude to help grasp the trail.

What is XHale Mesh? This is our proprietary three layer upper construction. An External web frame offers optimal breathability and abrasion protection, The ultra suede core maximizes support in key areas, and an ultralight mesh liner for superb comfort and debris protection.

Shoe feedback February 11, 2010
Reviewer: Matt M. from VT
I've gotten quite a few runs in on the shoes and I have to say they're quickly becoming my favorite offroad shoe.  A couple weeks back I did a duathlon at Catamount in Burlington and it went pretty well- ran slow, but felt good.  The shoes were great in the variable terrain- some really soft dirt, mud and hardpacked gravel in spots.

new shoes February 11, 2010
Reviewer: James T. from CA
I just wanted to let you know what I think about my new XR1.0 trail running shoes.  I am a 6' tall, 205 lb. man who runs 25-40 miles of trails per/week.  My feet are a little wide and I am always looking for shoes that come in wide sizes.  My choices have been very limited.  What I end up doing is going up in size to fit my width at the expense of extra sloppy length.  The XR1.0 fits my width in my regular size and that is very nice.
I currently own trail shoes by Pearl Izumi, Aisics, New Balance, Merrell, Soloman, and Addidas.  So far I've only done 2 runs in my new XTerra shoes; a 14 and a 9 mile run in El Moro Canyon in Crystal Cove State Park in Laguna Beach, CA.  I must say that I think I have a new favorite pair of running shoes.  They are light-weight yet have enough cushioning.  They are very comfortable.  So far I love them.  I need to put more miles on them to check the endurance (I usually put about 350 miles on a pair). Thank you for the wonderful shoes.
